Where Spencer Records Start

Spencer County custody questions often involve more than one office because the county contracts long-term jail housing to Shelby County Detention Center. For an arrest, warrant, sheriff report, court transport, or courtroom custody issue, the Spencer County Sheriff's Office is the local starting point. For jail-generated booking, roster, housing, release, or visitation information after a person is accepted into the contracted jail, contact Shelby County Detention Center.

Sheriff-generated record requests may be directed to records custodian Sharon Thomas at sharonthomas@spencercountyky.gov. Spencer Fiscal Court open-records requests go to Katie Stone, 12 W. Main St., P.O. Box 397, Taylorsville, KY 40071, phone 502-477-3205, fax 502-477-3206, or openrecords@spencercountyky.gov. A written Kentucky open-records request should include the requester's name, mailing address, telephone number, the specific records requested, and whether the use is commercial or noncommercial. Spencer County states that it responds within five working days, and noncommercial standard copies may cost 10 cents per page plus media, mechanical processing, and postage when those apply.

Use the most direct source for the type of record or custody status involved.

  • For someone in the contracted county jail, start with jail inmate records and verify with Shelby County Detention Center when status matters.
  • For booking photos, review jail roster mugshots and request official jail-generated records from the proper custodian.
  • For charges filed after a Spencer County arrest, use court records after a jail arrest and the Spencer County Circuit Court Clerk at 27 E. Main St., P.O. Box 282, Taylorsville, KY 40071, phone (502) 477-3220. Clerk hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., closed noon-1:00 p.m.
